Brief History of the Centre:-
Anna University Bioinformatics Centre (AU-BIC) focus mainly on development of research and manpower in the thematic area of Structural Informatics and Chemical Biology. With the Center's enhanced infrastructure facility and manpower, the Centre aims to achieve a unique identity as a potential and lead BIC with an expertise in Structural Informatics and Chemical Biology. Priorly, the Biotechnology Information System (BTIS) facility was established as a sub-DIC in 1989 with grants from DBT, Govt. of India and it was upgraded as a Distributed Information Centre (DIC) in April 2002 and continued till June 2020. Subsequently, the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India has sanctioned a Project entitled "Structural Informatics and Chemical Biology - Bioinformatics Centre - BIC" to Dr. B. S. Lakshmi as PI for a period of five years from March 2022. A latest infrastructure facility under BIC Project has been established at CBT, Main Building during 2022-2023. At present the Centre is strengthening Manpower to provide research facilities to facilitate research in Structural Informatics and Chemical Biology and to provide education and training services in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.

Approved Objectives of the Centre:-
1. To provide research facilities to facilitate research in Structural Informatics and Chemical Biology and other related areas.
2. To continue education services - Teaching in the area of Computational biology and Bioinformatics in order to meet the international scientific standards.
3. Together with research and education in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, the Centre also provides training services for College teachers from other Universities in the state through National level workshops.
