Profile Information

Brief History of the Centre:-
The R&D activities in IISc in Bioinformatics span a wide spectrum of systems biology and computational biology activities at multiple levels (including gene and protein sequences, polymorphisms, protein structures, biomolecular assemblies, analysis of transcriptomes and metabolomes, biochemical pathways, genome-wide networks, chemoinformatics, inter-species interactions, population modelling), to obtain fundamental insights about the structure, function and dynamics of biological processes as well as for applications including discovery of new biomarker signatures, drug targets, repurposable drug candidates, drug combinations, predicting disease susceptibility and disease spread, vaccine discovery, etc. To achieve these, new algorithms and new databases have been developed, many of which have been made publicly available on the internet

Approved Objectives of the Centre:-
1. Develop the capability to make multi-scale models of biological systems by integrating new approaches and methods– both in terms of research and in terms of teaching (workshops and training).
2. Develop strategies to make bioinformatics a mainstream and integral part of all biology research
