Profile Information

Brief History of the Centre:-
The Bioinformatics Centre at the National Institute of Immunology was established in 1988, with immunology as the primary research area. The centre began focusing on various research areas in the last three decades, including systems biology, chemical biology, structural biology, machine learning, and others. The centre has cutting-edge computing resources for use in research projects (the facilities tab provides information about it). The bioinformatics centre awarded PhD degrees to more than 15 research scholars (registration under JNU-NII MoU). Additionally, the centre has both paid and free software/tools for research purposes.

Approved Objectives of the Centre:-
1. Advanced research in structural bioinformatics for development of multi-scale modelling tools for: In silico identification of microbiome associated metabolites and biochemical pathways affecting cellular processes in host. Genome scale prediction of signaling (Protein-Protein) & regulatory (Protein-RNA/DNA) networks & Analysis of disease associated mutations in coding and non-coding regions
2. Collaborative research programs with experimental research groups in India working on major disease biology projects like malaria, tuberculosis and cancer for facilitating data driven research.
3. Initiating consortium projects involving structural bioinformatics research groups in India in collaboration with leading international bioinformatics centers to build major resources.
4. High end infrastructure building for providing hardware/software resources for MD simulations, drug design and NGS data analysis.
5. Manpower development in bioinformatics and computational biology by long/short term training and advanced work.
