Brief History of the Centre:-
The project aims to establish a Bioinformatics Centre (BIC) at the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB) to facilitate conducting of structure based computational drug discovery studies by life science researchers. This centre will provide a one-stop solution for carrying out all phases of computational studies required for in silico drug design and development, starting from structure prediction and refinement, to high throughput virtual screening (HTVS) and docking, Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion and Toxicity (ADMET) profiling, Molecular Dynamics Simulations (MDs) etc. A computational pipeline will be developed for this purpose, using non-proprietary open source software that can help users in identifying potential small molecule ligands that modulate biological activity of target proteins as desired.

Approved Objectives of the Centre:-
1. build a robust pipeline for in silico screening to unearth lead molecules using state of the art tools and infrastructure
2. Develop a model to enable access to researchers from all over India to utilize the drug discovery pipeline
3. Provide a platform for researchers within and outside RCB to develop effective computational tools to support the discovery of new drugs against different diseases.
4. Conduct periodic workshops.
