JULElla avicenniae
(Borse) Hyde Mycol. Res. 96(11): pp. 939, 1992 Ascomata 180-390 mm high, 130-180 mm diam., globose or subglobose, immersed beneath a clypeus, membranous and ostiolate. Peridium up to 30 mm wide, inwardly hyaline, outwardly light brown, a single stratum of elongated cells, fusing at the outside with the host tissue. Some cells at the sides are angular. Asci 130-200 x 20-32 mm, 8-spored, clavate, pedunculate, thick-walled, bitunicate, fissitunicate, apically rounded, with an ocular chamber surrounded by a faint ring, and developing from the base of the ascoma. Ascospores 28-36 x 12-16 mm, hyaline, with a central septum when young, brown, with (6-) 7 transverse septa when mature, constricted particularly at the central septum with up to 3 longitudinal septa, ellipsoidal and surrounded by a large spreading sheath.
