CRYPTOsphaeria
mangrovei Hyde Trans. Mycol. Soc. Jpn. 34(3): 311, 1993. Ascomata 480-920 mm in diameter, 630-970 mm high, globose to subglobose, immersed, ostiolate, papillate, periphysate, coriaceous, dark brown to black, solitary or gregarious, usually in one layer. Necks upto 460 mm long x 120-196 mm in diameter, black, of similar structure to the ascocarp outer wall layer. Asci 76-95 mm long x 10-15 mm in diameter, 8-spored, bi or triseriate, clavate, unitunicate, extremely thin-walled with an indistinct apical thickening, somewhat slightly truncate, without any apical apparatus, apical oil globules in immature asci; inamyloid. Ascospores 7.5-15.5 x 1.8-4.0 mm diameter, allantoid or subinequilateral, one-celled
or delicately 1-4 septate, hyaline when immature, yellowish to yellowish
brown at maturity, side walls thickened, guttulate, without appendages.
