Phoenix sylvestris (L.) Roxb. 

Stem unarmed, solitary and stout 10-20 m tall. 
Leaves-scar tufted throughout the srem; petiole short, compressed with modified leafletsas spines. 
Male spadix scented, white, branches slender, peduncle compressed; spathe separating into 2 boat shaped valves; flowers many 
Female spadix short, flowers scattered. 
Fruit-drupe, orange to reddish brown, with sweet edible flesh. 

Economic Importance : Its leaves are used for making mats, baskets, bags, broom & fan making. Its fruit is considered as remedy for heart diseases, fever, abdominal complaints and insalinity. Root is useful for cure toothache. Its trunk is used for domestic cottage and other domestic uses and as fuel.
