Writing the "ACKNOWLEDGEMENT" for a project like NIODMLI is a honour. Since we begain concentrating our efforts in early 1992, numerous experts both in the field of marine biology (especially prawns) and database management has guided us at various stages of the database davelopment.

First of all, we thank Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, New Delhi for supporting the Bioinformatics Centre at the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Dona Paula, Goa which has enabled creation of NIODMLI's (NIO's Database on Marine Life of India) this first version on Marine Prawns of India.

We express our sincere thanks towards two of our experts Dr. C. T. Achuthankutty and Dr. C. Suseelan who has spent many hours with us in formating and authenticating the information content of this database. We also thank Dr. Anil Chatterji, Scientist and Shri. R. A. Sreepada for providing valuable inputs for the database. We must not fail in recording the guidance provided by Late Dr. A.L. Paul Pandian, Former Coordinator, Advanced Centre for Study in Marine Sciences, Annamalai University, Parangipettai.

Dr. Arun Parulekar, currently Scientist Emiritus and former Coordinator of the Bioinformatics Centre has provided constant encoragement and guidance to the NIODMLI team. We must also express our deep sense of gratitude towards our Director Dr. Ehrlich Desa whose words of encouragement and constant followup has compelled us to bring this product to you.
