COLLABORATION :

Collaboration with the UNESCO funded Expertise Centre for Taxonomic Identification (ETI), Department of Zoology, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands was established in October 1992. ETI is developing Global Biodiversirt Database which will be the joint property of the NIO DISC and ETI. NIO DISC would act as a nodal agency for collection and distribution of data in Indian Sub-continent and would be a coordinating agency for establishment of network of marine scientists and institutions for collection and dissemination of data in India and in neighbouring countries too.

Another UNESCO finded organisation namely, International Centre for Living Aquatic Resources Management (ICLARM), Philippines, approached us in September, 1992 to establish a collaborative link. The collaboration was set up in October 1992. ICLARM has developing FISHBASE database which collate all kind of information about 20000 fish species available worldwide. The collaboration would help both the institutes in exchange/ sharing of data for their database. It would also facilitate cross checking of authenticity and quality of data.
