Brief History of the Centre:-
Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Centre (BIC) was created with a vision to Identify Potent Drugs with minimal side effects against nosocomial bacterial infections and viral pathogens. The BIC was approved on 31st December 2021 by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT). One project scientist and one Scientific Administrative Assistant were recruited for this project. Further, the Centre organized the International Conference cum Workshop on Recent Trends in Structural Bioinformatics and Computer-Aided Drug Design (ICSCADD, 2022) from 21st November to 25th November 2022. Thirty-eight distinguished scientists and eminent academicians from India and countries like the USA, Singapore, Taiwan, and Japan participated. More than 200 participants from across the Nation attained knowledge in Computational and Experimental Methodology regarding the problems in the healthcare sector, which promotes a better understanding of biomolecular structure for discovering potent drugs against various diseases. It helped participants to develop technical proficiency in handling computational tools to respond to biological issues in the areas of Structural Biology/Bioinformatics and Computer-Aided Drug Design. The Centre conducted an outreach programme as Science Day on 28th February 2022. As a part of it, Students and Teachers of various colleges and schools from rural surroundings visited highly equipped labs of the Department of Bioinformatics and BIC centre and interacted with Faculties & scholars. Researchers explained the Bioinformatics and Computer Aided Drug Design to the students and the ongoing research in the Department of Bioinformatics. This outreach programme helped the students to acquire knowledge and enhance their skills in Bioinformatics and Computer Aided Drug Design which transformed them into professional Bioinformaticians.

Approved Objectives of the Centre:-
1. To provide teaching/training and organize workshops/symposiums on Bioinformatics tools and techniques in drug designing.
2. To create necessary infrastructure and provide information through computer support services to the national community of researchers.
3. To identify drugabble targets in nosocomial bacterial pathogens and viral pathogens.
4. Identification of potent drug molecules against specific proteins in nosocomial bacterial pathogens and viral pathogens.
5. Molecular Cloning, Expression, Purification Crystallization and structural studies of the druggable targets.
